Insert form: Dropdown menu shows "Nothing selected", but has some entry selected

Sometimes, the dropdown menu shows "Nothing selected", but some entry is sent to the server, see screenshot. This happened after first selecting an entry, then choosing "None" again.

Seems to happen to (not required?) reference dropdowns with a make_desc function.

There also seems to be a flavor of this bug in which selecting value1 -> none -> value2 causes the dropdown selection to display value1value2 while in the submitted form, only value2 is submitted as intended. So probably a pure displaying issue.
